After the ground-breaking ceremony for Formerly known as Istanbul Park had taken place on 23rd September 2003, in 2005 the circuit hosted its first Formula 1 race, much to the joy of spectators. In 2018, Intercity acquired the rights to run the complex, and through the various improvements and investments it carried out, Istanbul Park was transformed into the country’s most comprehensive centre for the automotive sector, motorsports and road safety. The name “Intercity Istanbul Park” is known throughout the world, and the circuit has played host to various racing series, including the premium motorsports contest, the Formula 1 World Championship, as well as the RWS Renault World Series, MotoGP, SBK World Superbike Championship, FIA World Rallycross Championship, the Ferrari Racing Days and the European Truck Racing Championship.
On the 13th, 14th and 15th November 2020, Intercity Istanbul Park hosted the “Formula 1 DHL Turkish Grand Prix 2020”, the first time in nine years that it was the venue for a Formula 1 event.
